ManageSubs is built privacy-first. The subscriptions, prices, and budgets you track are yours — they live on your device and, if you turn on sync, in your own private iCloud account. We never connect to your bank, we never sell your data, and we never show you ads. This policy explains exactly what we do and don't collect.
The short version: Your subscription data stays with you. We collect a small amount of anonymous usage analytics to make the app better — nothing tied to your identity, your finances, or your bank.
Data We Collect
We deliberately collect as little as possible. Here's the full picture:
Data you enter (stays on your device / your iCloud)
Subscription names, prices, billing cycles, renewal dates, categories, family members, notes, and budget settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device database. If you enable iCloud sync, this data is also stored in your personal iCloud account so it can sync across your devices. We have no access to it.
- We do not have a server that stores your subscription data
- We do not require an account, email, or password to use the app
- We do not connect to your bank or read your financial transactions
Anonymous usage analytics
To understand which features are used and where the app can improve, we collect aggregate, anonymous usage data through PostHog. This includes things like which screens are opened, which features are tapped, and basic device information (such as iOS version and device model). It does not include the names, prices, or details of your subscriptions, and it is not linked to your identity.
Purchases
If you buy a paid feature, the purchase is processed entirely by Apple's In-App Purchase system. We receive a confirmation that the purchase succeeded — we never see or store your payment card, billing address, or Apple ID password.
How We Use It
We use the limited data we collect only to operate and improve the app:
- To provide core functionality — storing and syncing the subscriptions you track
- To understand which features matter most and prioritize improvements
- To find and fix bugs, crashes, and performance problems
- To verify and restore paid purchases through Apple
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or resale. We do not build a marketing profile of you, and we do not share your information with data brokers.
Third-Party Services
ManageSubs relies on a small number of trusted services, each for a specific purpose:
- Apple iCloud / CloudKit — optional sync of your data across your devices, stored in your own private iCloud account. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Apple In-App Purchase — processes any paid purchases. Apple handles all payment details.
- PostHog — anonymous product analytics, used to understand aggregate usage. See PostHog's Privacy Policy.
We do not integrate advertising SDKs, social-media trackers, or bank-aggregation services.
Data Storage & Security
Your subscription data is stored on your device and, when sync is enabled, in your personal iCloud account — both protected by Apple's encryption and your device passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID. Because we don't run a server that holds your subscription data, there is no central database of your finances for anyone to breach.
Analytics data is transmitted securely and retained only in aggregate. We keep it for as long as it remains useful for product decisions, after which it is deleted or further aggregated.
Your Rights
You're in control of your data at all times:
- Access & export — you can export all of your subscription data to a JSON file from within the app at any time
- Delete — deleting a subscription, or deleting the app, removes the data from your device; removing it from iCloud removes the synced copy
- Opt out of analytics — you can disable usage analytics in the app's Settings
- No account to close — since there's no account, there's nothing for us to retain about you after you stop using the app
Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or CCPA), you may have additional rights regarding your personal data. Because we hold almost no personal data about you, most requests are satisfied directly on your device — but you can always contact us with questions.
Children's Privacy
ManageSubs is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves or as laws change. When we make a material change, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use of ManageSubs after an update means you accept the revised policy.
