ManageSubs is coming to Android

Not a wrapper around the iPhone app — a native Kotlin build with the same subscription model, the same 1,400-plus service templates, and the same rule that your records never leave your device unless you export them. It is in closed testing on Google Play, and I need a small group of people to actually use it.

How to join

Google runs the tester list through a Google Group, so joining takes two steps — the first one is what actually grants access, and the opt-in link will not work without it.

Ask to join the tester group. groups.google.com/g/managesubs-testers — use the Google account you are signed in with on your Android phone. I approve requests by hand, usually the same day.
Once you are in, open the opt-in link and tap Become a tester: play.google.com/apps/testing/com.vmatusevic.managesubs
Install ManageSubs from the Play link on that page and leave it installed.

Start here — ask to join

If Play says the app is not available, it is almost always the wrong Google account on the phone, or the group request not approved yet. Email [email protected] and I will sort it. Your address is used for the Play tester list and nothing else — there is no mailing list to unsubscribe from.

What I am asking for

Google requires a closed test to run with at least twelve testers who stay opted in continuously for fourteen days. That single sentence is most of what being a tester involves, so it is worth being blunt about it:

Stay in for the full two weeks. If you leave the test early the days do not count, and if you re-join the clock starts again. You can leave at any time — it just costs the app a slot.
Actually use it. Add your real subscriptions rather than one test entry. Ten minutes on day one and a glance when a renewal is due is enough.
Tell me what is wrong. Anything that looks broken, slow, ugly, or worded badly in your language. Nine languages ship, and the ones I do not speak are the ones most likely to be wrong.

An Android phone or tablet running Android 8.0 or newer, and a Google account. That is the whole list of requirements.

Receipt scanning that reads prices on the device — the image never leaves your phone

CSV and JSON import and export, including a transfer file the iPhone app can read
English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese and Korean

If you want to exercise the paid features, email me and I will add you as a Play licence tester, which makes test purchases free. Testing the purchase flow is genuinely useful to me.

The two apps do not sync with each other. Android backs up to your Google account, iPhone to iCloud, and neither can read the other's backup. If you already use ManageSubs on iPhone and want your records on Android, export a JSON file from the iPhone app and import it — that path is one of the things worth testing.

Privacy, unchanged

No account to create, no bank connection, nothing sold. Your subscription records live on your device and, if you turn on Android backup, in your own Google account. Product analytics are off unless you switch them on in Settings. The full text is in the privacy policy, and the beta changes none of it.

How to send feedback

Google Play has a private feedback option on the app's page for testers — that is the easiest route from a phone and it reaches me directly. Otherwise send anything to [email protected].

Specific beats polite. "The renewal date on the widget is a day off in Germany" is worth more than "looks good".
